There are a number of green gemstones to choose from, but none as hardy or as beautiful as emeralds. Emeralds score 7.5-8 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness, which means they aren’t quite as durable as other coloured gem alternatives, but are an enchanting choice. Unsurprisingly, the ‘emerald cut’ was originally created for emeralds, meaning most emeralds we see are rectangular, but the gemstone is available in variety of shapes. Emeralds can feature heavy, dark inclusions, meaning a high level of transparency, as well as strong verdant green colour is optimal.
