Our Favourite Independent Businesses to Support in London

At Hearts of London, we have an ethos for supporting our local trade, year round - from working with local metal and gemstone suppliers, learning from the industry greats that surround us, and hiring from the Hatton Garden talent pool to join our goldsmith teams and nurture their career development.

Now, more than ever, it is important to support the small, independent businesses that make London the vibrant, characterful place it is! We’ve rounded up some of our favourite independent businesses in London - check them out and see the creative ways you can support them during this uncertain time. #LoveConquersAll

Madame Pigg

Madame Pigg is a restaurant in Dalston, serving what so many claim to be ‘the best roast in London’. As well as their locally-renowned roast porchetta, they offer seasonal, British fare with gluten free and vegan options available too. It’s been open a little over a year and now must be one of the most Instagrammed new businesses in London - the food is seriously next level, and the interior is cosy and creative (think House of Hackney wallpaper, mid-century mismatched tables).

The restaurant owner and chef, Adam Hardiman, has closed his restaurant amidst the disruption London is facing, but is staying active and creating cooking tutorials on @madame.pigg’s Instagram page.

How can you help? Madame Pigg are selling gift cards on their website that can be used when the restaurant reopens. Gift cards start at £25 - find them here.

Sage Flowers

Started by two young entrepreneurs, Iona & Romy, Sage Flowers offers an alternative to traditional flower arrangements, mixing up bouquets with injections of exotic leaves and punchy colours. They typically run workshops alongside the daily flower store routine, but have currently chosen to operate with limited hours. While currently still open - they are keen to encourage social distancing so have removed their local delivery fee (within 5km of their Peckham store).

It’s important to keep your house a happy and bright environment during this testing time - a cheery bouquet is sure to put a smile on your face.

How can you help? Shop their coolest bouquets here and explore their other artisanal offerings, from rose & violet chocolate cremes to boutique skin care products. The perfect gifts for those celebrating their birthdays and big moments while on lockdown..

Humble Grape

According to our founder, Brett, ‘this is one of my all time favourite places'. Humble Grape curates their stock of handcrafted wines from the lesser known vineyards around the world - with an emphasis on finding wines with biodynamic, organic and sustainable roots.

Humble Grape offers wine delivery to your doorstep in London

Ordinarily, the stores located around London offer visitors to drink in store, take away bottles, or - useful for those isolating - deliver to your door. This is the perfect way to support a small business while keeping yourself sane, and your life a little more ordinary. FaceTime your friends for a little communal wine tasting at a safe distance, or have a date night in with your partner.

Shoreditch Nails

Shoreditch Nails is the creative nail salon that draws on fashion trends, art and lifestyle to hand paint impressive, yet often minimalist designs beyond the typical block-colour.

Located in Shoreditch and with a recently-opened second store in Dalston, the small business was founded by Tina Michael who sought a creative outlet after a career in marketing and PR. At present, the salons are still open, and more conscious about hygiene than ever.

How can you help? If you’re not able to head out for your usual mani, you can buy a voucher online - redeemable for when life is a little more normal. How about one for yourself and one for your best pal? The perfect way to catch up in the future.

Do you know of any small businesses that could use a little love at the moment?

We want to help each other out and spread the word - let us know the independent places you love and how we can help them out during these uncertain times!
